These competencies are a living document and may evolve as the program develops. They outline the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors expected of NBIC practitioners.
NBIC1 Understands, identifies, and describes the psychedelic process, including its benefits, limitations, and caveats from the lens of harm reduction.
NBIC2 Possesses an awareness of the gateways of extra-ordinary awareness, expanded consciousness, and mystical experiences.
NBIC3 Recognizes the effects of psychedelics on the brain and is capable of helping clients actualize the resulting states of neuroplasticity.
NBIC3A Creates a space of compassionate understanding and witnessing after a journey.
NBIC3B Recognizes and nurtures the critical learning period after a psychedelic journey.
NBIC3C Helps clients find clarity, sense of purpose, and develop action steps to meaningful change after a journey through strong presence and powerful questioning.
NBIC4 Creates a space of respectful connection between modern coaching and ancestral shamanic practice through nature connection (elements, directions).
NBIC5A Collaborates with nature and the environment for deepening and potentiating the integration process.
NBIC5B Collaborates with the client to create a personalized integration pathway.
NBIC5C Reflects with the client on the gains and growth made in the integration process and creates a plan for accountability.
NBIC6 Creates a trauma-informed container from a nature-connected lens in a psychedelic context.
NBIC6A Can describe the relationship between psychedelics and trauma and understands its healing potential and limitations.
NBIC6B Can describe what healing means from a trauma perspective.
NBIC6C Recognizes the potential for post-traumatic growth and helps clients identify and realize this potential, including reframing old narratives and recognizing that we are shaped by what happened to us but not defined by it.
NBIC6D Understands the potential for retraumatization in the psychedelic experience and can help clients validate their experience while creating a supportive healing container.
NBIC7 Helps clients recognize, name, and claim their place of service to the greater ecosystem/community at this stage in their growth (stages of belonging).
NBIC8 Demonstrates professionalism in the field of entheogenic healing by maintaining ethical standards, communicating respectfully with peers, and integrating nature connection and ecological protection into their coaching practice when possible.
NBIC9 Demonstrates a respectful and informed attitude towards origin cultures. Understands the difference between appropriation and right relationship.
